Consultation on mental health assessment and referral tool
Posted on May 13, 2022
The 2021-22 Federal Budget included funding to expand and implement the mental health Initial Assessment and Referral (IAR) decision support tool in primary care settings.
Primary Health Tasmania’s Dr Anna Seth and Paul Richards are undertaking extensive stakeholder consultation during June to inform the IAR implementation plan for Tasmania, and are keen to hear from GPs and other health professionals involved in the care of Tasmanians with mental illness.

Development and implementation of the IAR tool is a key component of Primary Health Tasmania’s Common Assessment and Referral (CARe) project, which aims to standardise the assessment of people presenting with mental health conditions to ensure they are matched to the care that most suits their needs at the time.
