Statewide eReferral milestone welcomed

Primary Health Tasmania welcomes Premier Rockliff’s announcement on 26 June that Tasmania’s eReferral system has now been implemented across all four major public hospitals.
CEO Phil Edmondson said that with Australian Government funding, Primary Health Tasmania had led establishment of the Tasmanian eReferral system – including development of the first version of the Tasmanian Health Service’s referral management system, allowing the public hospital system to receive eReferrals from GPs.
“Importantly, the Tasmanian eReferral system supports referrals to medical specialists working privately and correspondence with allied health professionals,” Mr Edmondson said.
“We worked with the Tasmanian Department of Health to select a vendor for the system and complete a proof-of-concept trial in 2020.
“It has been particularly pleasing to see the Department invest in integration of the Tasmanian Health Service referral management system within the hospitals and completion of rollout across the majority of outpatient services across the state.
“This is a major step towards eliminating faxes across the Tasmanian health system.”
Primary Health Tasmania continues to invest in and support the rollout and ongoing improvement of the eReferral system across the Tasmanian Health System in close collaboration with the Department of Health.
