Grant opportunity: GP recruitment and retention *NOW CLOSED*
Posted on February 15, 2024
Primary Health Tasmania has launched a second round of GP recruitment and retention grants to eligible general practices in Tasmania.
In 2022, Primary Health Tasmania received Australian Government funding to address GP recruitment and retention issues in north and north west Tasmania.
We worked in partnership with Tasmanian rural workforce agency HR+ and the Rural Doctors Association of Tasmania to understand how the funding could best be used to help practices on a sustainable, long-term basis. We then developed an assessment tool and delivered a grant program for practices in north and north west Tasmania who identified needs based on use of this tool.
In 2023, a total of 19 grants were awarded to general practices in north and north west Tasmania to strengthen capability to recruit and retain GPs. All general practices who applied for funding were awarded a grant.
Following completion of the first grants program, a small amount of funding remained. Recognising that the challenges experienced in north and north-western Tasmania are also present in areas of the south, Primary Health Tasmania sought and received Australian Government approval to expand eligibility to include southern Tasmania in a second round of grants. Practices in the north and north west who did not participate in the first round will also be able to apply in round two.
Applications close on Friday 8 March. Click here for more information including grant guidelines and application details.
