Immunisation update: RSV vaccine in pregnancy

Posted on January 23, 2025

From 3 February 2025, the respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) vaccine Abrysvo will be available on the National Immunisation Program (NIP).

A single dose of this vaccine is recommended during pregnancy (from 28 to 36 weeks gestation) to protect infants against RSV illness from birth.

Tasmanian providers can order Abrysvo via routine government vaccine ordering systems or by contacting the Tasmanian Department of Health’s immunisation team by email or by calling 1800 671 738 (select option 4).

From 1 April 2025, the Tasmanian Government is funding the seasonal infant RSV monoclonal antibody program (Beyfortus/nirsevimab) for high-risk infants or those not protected by maternal vaccination.

More information is available on the Tasmanian Government Department of Health website.
