Mental Health Update and Education series, Session two: Complex trauma, borderline personality disorder and women’s mental health.
The Mental Health Education Series is an series of mental health events for GPs with the dual purpose of keeping GPs informed about changes in the Tasmanian mental healthcare landscape, alongside providing interesting and relevant clinical education delivered by local mental health clinicians. These events will provide an opportunity for GPs to have cross-disciplinary dialogue
This webinar will include a service update from Lachlan Collins, Triage officer From Access mental health and will include an introduction to Hannah Nolan and Dr Mark Millar from Access Mental Health and the Acute care stream. They will discuss their roles in opening communication channels and being a direct point of contact for GP’s with complex mental health clients. Hannah can provide support and assistance to GP’s with a client that is requiring access to mental health care and assessments with realistic expectations – including undertaking a risk assessment or secondary triage if required and Mark will speak to the Collins st GP Liaison clinic.
Additionally the Clinical update will be an interactive session presented by Dr Victoria Jackson FRANZCP, Cert. Forensic Psychiatrist. Victoria has special interests in women’s mental health, psychiatric neuroendocrinology, complex trauma, ADHD and personality disorder. She will use illustrative case studies to explore women’s mental health problems and how to address them at the primary care level.
The learning outcomes for this session are:
- Describe the aetiology, clinical features, and approach to assessment of Borderline Personality Disorder and Complex Post-traumatic Stress Disorder in the community setting
- Identify trauma informed care and the key features of an effective long term therapeutic relationship with this patient group, including managing boundaries and avoiding clinician burnout.
- Demonstrate awareness of women’s mental health and the role of hormonal treatment at different life stages.
