Primary Health Tasmania and the Tasmania Sexual Health Service are presenting an update on Sexual Health Medicine – the 3rd in an ongoing annual webinar series.

This webinar will identify the role of GPs in Transgender Medicine Care, actively seek to address biases, judgements, assumptions and attitudes regarding sexuality and gender, identify the role of GPs in HIV medicine care within the Australian context, and assess syphilis serology and implementation into clinical practice.

This event is accredited for 1 hours of Educational Activities and 0.5 hours of Reviewing Performance with RACGP.

Learning Outcomes:

  • Revisiting Transgender Medicine – Identify the roles of GPs in Transgender Medicine Care
  • Reflect on and actively seek to address biases, judgements, assumptions and attitudes regarding sexuality and gender
  • Identify the role of GPs in HIV medicine care within the Australian context
  • Assess syphilis serology and implementation into clinical practice

Speaker Information:

Dr Alvin Ding is a Consultant in the Tasmanian Sexual Health Service – having moved from the United Kingdom in 2016 with his family. He has been working in Sexual Health and HIV Medicine for more than a decade. 

Dr Kate Scoles graduated from the University of Tasmania and completed her medical training within the Tasmanian Health System. She qualified in General Practice, where she practiced for several years before undertaking Sexual Health Physician training, recently qualifying in 2020. Kate has lived in Tasmania most of her life and is passionate about providing quality health care to her fellow Tasmanians. 

Dr Jennifer Misson is a UTAS graduate who has gone on to complete her General Practitioner and Sexual Health Physician fellowships.  Jenny has experience in sexual and reproductive health care in Tasmania and interstate, and is particularly interested in marginalised and disadvantaged populations.  Outside of work she is a passionate reader, grower, and creator. 

Dr Peta Gardam is a current sexual health advanced trainee. She completed her medical studies at the University of Queensland and moved to Tasmania for her General Practice training. Peta has worked as a local GP for the last 8 years. She has always been passionate about sexual health and is thoroughly enjoying this new challenge and phase of her career.
