Smoking and vaping continue to pose a significant threat to the health of Tasmanians of all ages.

The session will explore the dangers of smoking and vaping in a local and contemporary context. It will outline the importance of the ABC brief intervention, Nicotine Replacement Therapy and other pharmacotherapies available via the PBS and pharmacies.

In addition, the session will introduce current and future projections for Quit-Tasmania, such as the Quitline Free NRT programme, including referral pathways to this and other services across the state.

This event is RACGP and ACRRM approved for 1 hour of Educational Activities.

Learning outcomes:

  • Assess nicotine dependence and quit motivations using the ABC framework and standardised tools appropriate for a range of individuals
  • Describe the various smoking cessation pharmacotherapies available, including PBS authority medications
